2.6.11
A
total of 55% of respondents were aware of transport that can be arranged
for visits to Doctor’s surgeries or the Hospital, on the Acorn community
bus. However, the Acorn minibus coordinator made the following comment:
“This
information is incorrect – Acorn use volunteers with cars for this
service. The Acorn minibus is used for 1. Taking residents to the day care
centre 2. Shopping trips to Exeter High Street 3. Excursions.
All for pensioners, those with disabilities, the frail and those
who have difficulty using public transport (Acorn minibus coordinator)”
2.6.12
A
total of 66% of respondents said they would use the train service if the
Teign Valley Railway was reinstated.
Comments
on transport issues included:
“Discussions
over many years have failed to find space for a dedicated car park and
street parking is likely to continue. Child safety in particular would be
improved by banning parking outside the school”
“Buses
to Newton Abbot and Plymouth. Special day buses to shop, different
places each day”
“Buses
to and from places such as Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot would be useful.
Buses to go through the Teign valley”
“I
have not filled in my column because at present we both still drive but
the time is coming when this bus service will become absolutely essential
to us and to all others of our age group. No one knows how age and
infirmity will affect them of course, and therefore the bus service should
be retained and encouraged”
“The
dilemma of public transport is that if it is not comprehensive you need a
car, and if you have a car, you use it rather than public transport.
2.6.12: Surely this is likely to be wholly unrealistic”
“Car
sharing can be useful. For 5 years plus I car shared – with a
difference. I and 5 colleagues bought a car between us to use solely for
travelling to work. Each paid a monthly subscription based on distance
from the work place. All were insured to drive and took it in turns”
“2.6.10:
A dedicated car park would be useful for the occasional big event (e.g.
Panto school functions, Bingo) but as it would have to be away from the
centre of the village people probably wouldn’t want to use it on a daily
basis. There is road side parking space towards the edge of the village
now, but people still seem to insist on bringing their cars right into the
centre and causing congestion. (i.e. not elderly or disabled people but
those who could quite easily walk – e.g. school parents.)”
“The
noise of the car movements and children/parent’s using the village hall
(pub) car park for school drop offs is very intrusive during the day. I am
often blocked into my parking spot by thoughtless parking. The dedicated
car park should not be the pub car park.”
“Car
parking in Dunsford is a major problem, which the current scheme is only
going to make worse. I would prefer to see no parking lines from the court
to the pub.”
“Parking
in the village, I think is really one of the things the biggest thing
spoiling the village – the new staggering arrangements look ghastly and
does not work. Please please find us a car park.”
“2.6.6:
The frequency
of the bus service is not an encouragement to use it. It is also a problem
that it does not connect to the railway station (St David’s). The first
bus of the morning runs too late and the last bus back is too early.
2.6.10: The no parking ramps in Bridge Street are an eyesore. There is
need for a car park in that area, e.g. the bottom of the court. 2.6.12: In
its day the Teign Valley Railway connected the valley with the whole rail
network and served as a diversion to the Dawlish sea wall route. It would
be an asset to have it reinstated.”
“Teign
Valley Railway could be reinstated as electric tramway”
“Park
and ride coming into Exeter would be very convenient.”
“Whilst
I have been negative so far as the bus service is concerned I do
appreciate for others, particular for the young and old it is a vital
service and therefore a more flexible/frequent service would be of help.
Also while I have said no to car sharing this is only because I doubt my
working hours would suit everyone. Wherever possible I am happy to provide
a lift – if this needs to be known.”
“More
frequent bus service would be very good because I use it everyday and
though it’s great we have a bus service a more frequent one would be
excellent. Also buses to Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton would be a very
good ides. The train services would be a very good idea too”
“More
destinations for buses, Newton Abbot & Kingsteignton. Train service
would be great too”
“I
think the temporary pavement to stop cars parking opposite the village
hall is scandalous and I understand this is to become permanent. It
absolutely ruins the look of a lovely old village and parking at school
times has become impossible, leading to irate drivers. I have had children
at the school for nine years and parking has become far more of a problem
in the last year.”
“Bus
to Post Bridge and Tavistock would be useful during winter on Saturdays as
well as Sundays – and a more frequent service. A bus down the Teign
valley would also be useful.”
“Car
park would have to be an area on the periphery of the residential area and
not turn into a skateboard /bike park that caused annoyance to local
residents or an overnight parking/car dumping ground.”
“It
would be wonderful if there was a safe cycle route from Dunsford to Exeter
– I would use this and encourage my sons to use it. An evening bus
service would be great too. – I would use a bus which returns at 10.30
from Exeter.
“The
whole issue of car park, village parking etc has been running for at least
30 years. Some attempts have been made to fiddle with the edge of the
problem with negligible profit. The answer must be, if the Parish council
can be brought to tackle it, is to relocate the village hall, preferably
next to a recreation ground and car park, on the village fringe.”
“Perhaps
someone could look into opening up the route of the Teign Valley railway
as a cycle way? I think this has been suggested in the past.”
“I
would not personally use a walking bus but strongly in favour of
implementation for the school children.”
2.6.12:
Surely this is total “pie in the sky”! The railway line is already, I
understand being filled in with hundreds of lorry loads of soil and rubble
from development in Exeter and houses along line are privately owned.”
“Would
definitely use the Teign Valley Railway.”
“Yes
a dedicated car park in the village would benefit most people –
especially the small businesses – P.O., Pub, Walled garden etc. but
unless it was in the centre no one would use it.”
“Teign
Valley Railway would be great!”
“Walking
bus for school – excellent idea, often thought it would work well and
help with parking problems.”
“If
a walking bus to be organised why are we desecrating the village with
traffic calming eyesores, which are often parked on anyway.”
