2.5.6   A total of 83% of respondents thought that the gate should be locked after dark.

Comments on recreational issues included:

“If there was more space it could be a focus for more age groups. Because children’s parents are quite vocal, other groups are sometimes ignored”

“Village green used for coffee mornings, plant sales etc”

“The gate locking rule makes it very hard for disabled people. If they’re in there when it locks they can’t get out as others are forced to climb over the wall”

“For grandchildren – why do we need a new village hall? Car parking has been an ongoing problem for years – the number of cars per family is the problem! 2.5.5: I am in sympathy with some improvements but not to turn the village into a ‘theme park’”

“More provision should be made for older children of the parish, for ages 8 and up. The village green is very young-child orientated. Maybe a skate bowl or climbing wall? Even a small scale ramp with concrete is better than nothing”

“Village green very useful for events such as gardens open day, plant sales etc”

“I use village green to take grandchildren”

“2.5.1n: Other = Scouts”

“We are new to the village and have not had any time / opportunity to use the rec. facilities yet. However we would use yoga, keep fit and swimming and join a garden club”

“Table tennis table in village Hall?”

“2.5.3: Occasional public events. 2.5.5e: Lighting isn’t necessary in the village green as the condition of the planning permission was that it would not be used after dark.”

“2.5.1: Recreation under taken at Moretonhampstead”

“It would be gratefully appreciated if the orchard could be made into flower beds and seating areas for the older “Wrinkleys” instead of the grass being cut and left to rot!”

“The present Village green I feel has a negative closed feeling to it. So if ever possible a more readily accessible inviting location should be found. Perhaps this is due to the ghetto grills fitted at a very unsightly entrance.”

“I think the question of the Village Hall, its position, parking should get top priority. If it could be located somewhere else with easy access and more parking this would be a great asset to the village.”

“I think the village green should have a water fountain with benches around it.”

“I would use the swimming pool however the school do not wish to share it as they have codes which we don’t know. This is unfair as when I was at the school we raised money for the pool, the School is supposed to be a community school therefore they should share.”

“Youth Club Any sports facilities would be really good, and maybe get the youth club involved in designing a skateboard small park to make it safer so they wouldn’t do skateboarding on the road. Skate ramps, new goals in a better area of the park not in front of the boggy area.”

“A safe cycle route to the Teign Valley facilities at Christow would be more cost effective.”

“And a footpath from village to Dunsford woods”

“2.5.3: Other group activities.”

“Recreation: The village badly needs a decent sized recreation field. The village green has not the capacity to cope with teenage games. And the initial rules governing use have been progressively ignored. Any analysis of recreation needs must be very carefully appraised. We don’t need the white elephant of Christow’s track.”

“Village Green, one or two more play items, also some culling of trees, which are becoming overgrown.”

“Can’t see how village could support items like Tennis court, indoor sports hall and all weather sports field. The first Two are already at Christow for the use of all Teign Valley villages.”

“2.5.3: Only use Village green when my grandchildren come to stay 3-4 times per year.”

“Swimming pool all year round. Ice cream van, roundabout in village green,

Balls games should be provided somewhere bigger. Pathways would make it more accessible to everyone all the time.”

“I would like to attend yoga classes if they were available.”

“Mud ramps for riding on. I think the door should be locked after 9.00pm”
