Helen O'grady Drama AcademyThe Helen O’Grady Drama Academy was first established in Perth, Western Australia, in 1979 and introduced in the UK in 1994. Today it is one of the largest organisations of its kind in the world. In the UK there are now 50 branches, with approximately 15,000 children attending classes each week.
I am very excited to have taken on the Devon branch and aim to make it very successful in this area by offering this unique and carefully constructed Drama programme to as many families as possible.
My classes run all over Exeter and Crediton but are based in Dunsford vIllage Hall on Tuesday evenings from 3.45-4.45.
We work in term time only and so we stop for the holidays but I am looking to run a summer workshop again this year and will keep you posted with more details.
The programme that I offer is one of self development and our prime aim is to give children on-going confidence and skill in verbal communcitaion. Each week we work on Voice and speech exercises and movement which encourages children to become better co-ordinated and this is done by learning various skills and acting out short stories to music. The main part of each lesson is creative improvised Drama, here each child can use their imagination and ideas with my encouragement. In the third term we put these skill to practise and put on a production that we invite all parents, and friends to.
We promise, through our dynamic programme to:-
* DEVELOP ONGOING CONFIDENCE
* BUILD SELF-ESTEEM
* EMPOWER CHILDREN VERBALLY
* ENCOURAGE ATTENTIVE LISTENING
* TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS
I offer discounts to families who enrol more than one child and instalment plans can be arranged to pay for termly fees.
More about me and Dunsford
I took on this franchise for Helen O’Grady Drama Academy after I won a BT Business award in Sept 2009. I entered the Remote Employment awards as I had a background in Drama and had been working for Bigfoot Arts Ed before hand. I graduated from Dartington College of Arts in 2008 and knew that I wanted to work with children and so I began volunteering once a week in Dunsford Primary School. I created a group called the Actor Factor and had 22 children attending every week and we finally put on a show called ‘Little Red Rocking Hood’ for the parents and locals. It was great fun and inspired me to run a Summer workshop to make some extra money. I ran ‘Dramalade’ over 2 weeks of summer 2009 and then was lucky enough to take on this franchise. It has all happened so quickly and is very exciting.
