Acorn Community Support

Acorn Community Support is a voluntary group working in the Teign Valley and Cheriton Bishop to provide care, support and comfort to those in need. We aim to provide services that improve quality of life and enable users to live at home independently with dignity and privacy.

We work in partnership with the Teign Valley and Cheriton Bishop Practice of doctors and social care professionals to relieve sickness, preserve health and complement the medical services provided.

Acorn can help in many ways for example:

By providing transport to NHS appointments including to the doctor, dentist, hospital and chiropodist.

By collecting prescriptions from local surgeries.

By lending equipment e.g. wheelchairs.

By providing assistance with such things as shopping, benefit advice, etc.

By providing support for carers, the terminally ill and families.

Acorn Club
Since moving to the Teign Valley Community Hall, the Acorn Club - held on Tuesdays - continues to grow. Why not broaden your interests and made new friends over a home cooked lunch? We offer a range of activities. Why not give it a try? Contact Joan on 01647 252701 for bookings/more details.

Acorn Friends Association
If you would like to help Acorn provide community support, joining their Friends Association will help their fund raising activities. Annual Family membership is £10 or £5 for singles. Members will receive an occasional newsletter and an invitation to an annual get together.

Minibus
We have a 9-seater minibus. Our aim is to provide those aged 60 or over, those with disabilities and those who have difficulty using public transport with a low-cost, comfortable means of transport that has special facilities to help the disabled on and off the bus. The bus is in use every Tuesday taking people to the Acorn Club at the Teign Valley Community Hall.

Excursions
Excursions are arranged to various places such as Dartmoor, coastal resorts, garden centres, the theatre and pub lunches. The bus can also be hired.

Acorn Walking Group
We are planning a new programme of Devon walks using our minibus for drop off and collection at the end of the walk - or part way - to suit your capabilities.
